October 2011-kitten food appeal

The shelter has been very busy this month with both our fundraising and with many new additions to the shelter. The shelter has been over whelmed with the amount of cats and kittens brought to the door this last month and it has been a challenge to find space to accommodate them all.  With the help of our dedicated staff and foster carers we have managed to find temporary homes for them all. The staff at the shelter often take home kittens to hand rear and others that need extra attention.

The ‘staff member of the month’ would have to go to Nelly the dog who has been a god- send to her owner Shirley whilst she has been hand rearing 4 kittens this month. Nelly has worked hard keeping the kittens clean and warm and is very protective of them all.

This year the shelter has had a growing amount of kittens to house and re-home and we are always in desperate need of donated kitten pouches. The shelter feeds up to 25 kittens each day and we would appreciate any donations of kitten pouches or small tins of Whiskas kitten super meat.

The Shelter’s Halloween Yard Sale took place on Saturday 29th Oct and was a fun day enjoyed by all. Many people came in fancy dress and the kitchen was transformed to sell delicious vegetable soup, savoury treats and cakes

The Yard Sale raised £692 which is the best sale yet. This money will help run the shelter for 2 days so fundraising events like these are so important. We are always happy to hear from anyone interested in fundraising either helping with the shelters events or if you have an ideas of your own. We have had people who have raised money through sponsored dog walks or more extreme activities such as a sponsored sky dive. If you have any ideas we would be more than happy to help you with your fundraising idea.

The shelter found new homes for 24 cats/kittens in October including Pickles, Hazel and Willow who had been SOS cats at shelter for many months, so we are all delighted that they have finally settled into a new home. One of our older cats Croaky also found a foster home this month and has settled in so well his fosterer says it’s like he’s always lived there.

With the growing amount of cats at the shelter we are always looking for ways to keep them stimulated and happy. We are in great need of any donated soft toys for the cats and kittens to play with and we are also appealing for donated scratch posts for the cats to use at the shelter. If you have any unwanted toys and scratch posts that maybe your own cats has grown bored of, we would be very grateful of any donations.
