During November the Shelter re-homed 25 cats/kittens and found a loving foster home for one of our older residents Mally. Mally has a liver condition which requires close monitoring and treatment. Mally soon settled into her foster home and doesn't even notice the other two foster cats she lives with, as long has there's food about she's an happy cat. Toots also found a new home this month after being at the shelter since April. He has settled in well and loves the other cat he lives with, following him everywhere he goes.
The Shelter will soon be closing for the Christmas period, the last day for adoptions will be Friday 16th December. The Shelter will be re-opening for adoptions on Monday 2nd January when we will have many cats ready and waiting for new homes. The Shelter closes over the Christmas period to ensure no cat or kitten is adopted purely for Christmas as a gift to someone else. Many people believe that they are doing nothing wrong by surprising their loved ones with a cat for Christmas but most of the time they are an unwanted surprise and soon become a problem. Deciding to adopt any animal is a big commitment that should be thought through to ensure you make the right decision. All the cats at the Shelter deserve to go to a loving home where they are wanted and adored.
This month the Shelter has collected a large group of kittens from a funeral directors in Sheffield, after a female cat gave birth in the attic there. The kittens are all 4-5 months old and are very nervous around people because they have not had alot of contact with people whilst growing up. The staff and volunteers at the Shelter have been working hard to socialise these timid kittens and show them that we're not that scary. They are showing great signs of improvement and growing in confidence each day. Once they are in a loving home it won't take them long to come out of their shell. We have already re-homed four of the kittens but Addie and Amy are two very timid kittens who are still waiting for a home. You can read all about Amy and Addie on the 'cats for adoption' page.
Here is Amy, looking a bit wary wondering what the camera is:
