Simon started volunteering for us when he took voluntary redundancy from his job, of 18 years, as a science technician. Congratulations are in order as he’s just started his new job, but is still volunteering as a driver for us at weekends.

Last week saw the arrival of a rather unusual cat…. It’s not often we feel re-homing is unlikely, but this is one such case, so we made the decision to keep her as our resident cat. We now need your help in coming up with a suitable name. more

We are so, so pleased to announce that Figaro has been adopted! He is settling into his new forever home nicely.
Today the shelter has taken in a stray cat called Penny and her kittens, who were kindly brought in to us by a concerned member of the public. Penny and her kittens were found living as strays, but she is a very friendly and affectionate cat so is likely to have been someone’s pet at some point in her life. more

The Olympians find new homes!
This summer the Shelter rescued 9 young kittens who were left abandoned in a cardboard box at the side of a busy road. They were named after Olympic hero’s and were all little hero’s after surviving such an ordeal.
After holding a successful Rick Night to raise funds for us, our intrepid supporter Phil Elsey has now volunteered to walk across 20’ of wood embers burning at 1236 degrees Fahrenheit, all for the love of cats. There’s dedication for you! more

So next year we want to commemorate all the hard work and dedication of the many staff, volunteers and supporters of the Sheffield Cats Shelter over the last 120 years. more
Nine young kittens were abandoned by the side of a busy road in a cardboard box, in torrential rain.
In these conditions, the kittens would have died, had it not been for the kindness of a passer-by who found them and contacted local rescue, Friends of Ferals. Unfortunately, they were at full capacity and unable to take them in, so they called us. And so the kittens came to us to begin their new lives.
Mandy, one of our lovely foster carers, has written us a fantastic piece on her experience fostering Kittens:
We’re currently looking to recruit a Deputy Cat Care Manager to cover the maternity leave of the current post holder. The position will initially be offered on a 12 month fixed term contract.
Hours: 22 hours over 3 days (currently Sunday, Monday and Friday) Rate of pay: £7.85 per hour
Our office at the Shelter has had a makeover thanks to a group of helpful volunteers from the Lloyd’s Banking Group.

Womble came to the Shelter last month after being found living outside as a stray and it was clear to see he was severely injured with a broken leg. He was taken straight to Highfield Veterinary Centre for X-rays which showed he had fractured his leg and also broken his pelvis and femoral head. more
Today we have had another very kind donation of a tablet computer. Avril Williams, who is one of our supporters and who donates to us regularly, has made our adoption process even easier by bringing us another tablet. This will also enable staff to update the website and social media more efficiently even if the other tablet is already in use. Thank you so much!

It’s been a great year for the shelter this year, we have had 428 adoptions and 7 new cats on long term foster meaning we have rehomed a total of 435 cats in 2015!
Some of the cats that stick out for us are cases such as Burdock and Yogi who were at the shelter for over 8 months before finally finding their forever homes.
Thank you to everyone who completed our survey. The information collected is going to be so valuable in helping us be the best we can. The prize draw has taken place for the £20 shop voucher.

It is with much sadness that we inform you our retired Trustee Jane passed away on the 27th October 2015 at the age of 65.

Today we were delighted when Posh Spice finally found a loving new home after being at the Shelter since February this year.
