Volunteer Spotlight

Without the donations the charity wouldn’t be possible so I’m only too happy to help get the donations to where they need to be

Simon started volunteering for us when he took voluntary redundancy from his job, of 18 years, as a science technician. Congratulations are in order as he’s just started his new job, but is still volunteering as a driver for us at weekends.

Review of 2016

We would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and say a massive thank you for all your donations and support this year.

This year we have rescued and re-homed 430 cats and kittens which wouldn’t have be possible without your help. more

Name our Resident Cat!

Last week saw the arrival of a rather unusual cat….  It’s not often we feel re-homing is unlikely, but this is one such case, so we made the decision to keep her as our resident cat.  We now need your help in coming up with a suitable name. more

Stray Mum and 10 Kittens in need of our care

Today the shelter has taken in a stray cat called Penny and her kittens, who were kindly brought in to us by a concerned member of the public. Penny and her kittens were found living as strays, but she is a very friendly and affectionate cat so is likely to have been someone’s pet at some point in her life. more

Congratulations to Storm

The staff, volunteers and Trustees at the Shelter send their congratulations to Storm Burgess, on her award from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)*. more

The Olympians find new homes!

The Olympians find new homes!

This summer the Shelter rescued 9 young kittens who were left abandoned in a cardboard box  at the side of a busy road. They were named after Olympic hero’s and were all little hero’s after surviving such an ordeal.

Steel City Firewalk : 28th October 2016

After holding a successful Rick Night to raise funds for us, our intrepid supporter Phil Elsey has now volunteered to walk across 20’ of wood embers burning at 1236 degrees Fahrenheit, all for the love of cats. There’s dedication for you! more

Share your memories with us

We have an important birthday coming up and would love you to help us celebrate by sharing your memories with us.   The sharp-eyed ones out there will have noticed that we have been helping cats since in 1897. So next year we want to commemorate all the hard work and dedication of the many staff, volunteers and supporters of the Sheffield Cats Shelter over the last 120 years. more

Olympic kittens strike gold!

Nine young kittens were abandoned by the side of a busy road in a cardboard box, in torrential rain.

In these conditions, the kittens would have died, had it not been for the kindness of a passer-by who found them and contacted local rescue, Friends of Ferals. Unfortunately, they were at full capacity and unable to take them in, so they called us. And so the kittens came to us to begin their new lives.

A Foster Carer’s Tail

Mandy, one of our lovely foster carers, has written us a fantastic piece on her experience fostering Kittens:

An update on Womble

Womble came to the Shelter last month after being found living outside as a stray and it was clear to see he was severely injured with a broken leg. He was taken straight to Highfield Veterinary Centre for X-rays which showed he had fractured his leg and also broken his pelvis and femoral head. more

Another Generous Donation!

Today we have had another very kind donation of a tablet computer. Avril Williams, who is one of our supporters and who donates to us regularly, has made our adoption process even easier by bringing us another tablet. This will also enable staff to update the website and social media more efficiently even if the other tablet is already in use. Thank you so much!

Review of 2015

It’s been a great year for the shelter this year, we have had 428 adoptions and 7 new cats on long term foster meaning we have rehomed a total of 435 cats in 2015!

Some of the cats that stick out for us are cases such as Burdock and Yogi who were at the shelter for over 8 months before finally finding their forever homes.

Survey Winner

Thank you to everyone who completed our survey. The information collected is going to be so valuable in helping us be the best we can. The prize draw has taken place for the £20 shop voucher.

Christmas Closure – Shelter

It’s fast approaching the last adoption day of the year.  If you are interested in one of our cats, please make sure you visit soon.  Wednesday the 16th December will be your last chance to adopt from us this year.

Jane Patterson

It is with much sadness that we inform you our retired Trustee Jane passed away on the 27th October 2015 at the age of 65.

Posh finds a home at last

Today we were delighted when Posh Spice finally found a loving new home after being at the Shelter since February this year.

Lotto update

Have you entered our Lotto yet?   Since we launched it in May, players have already raised £200 for the Shelter.  If you like playing, this might be a good time to enter.

Furry art fans!

Many thanks to our volunteer Holly, who recently attended an informal meet-up for fans of  “furry” cartoon animal characters.  These are friendly gatherings of artists, fans and costumers who all enjoy the medium of animal-themed art.

Have you considered remembering us in your Will?  By leaving a legacy to the Sheffield Cats Shelter you can help to provide for unwanted cats and kittens long into the future.

Black Cats!!

Through no fault of their own, black cats are overlooked time and time again, as most people tend to choose ‘prettier’ coloured cats.  Even black kittens are left until last for adoption, while their more colourful siblings are chosen first.

Our Blog is live!

Welcome to our new blog!  We hope to bring you a variety of different types of content on a weekly basis. It goes without saying it will likely include many photos of cats…..
